In order to obtain a happy and healthy lawn year-round, your grass needs year-round care. Summer months can wreak havoc on turf and, depending on the environmental circumstances (temperature, exposure, soil type, etc..), the damage can often be irreversible. If you check yes to any of the following symptoms, consider calling us to schedule your fall aeration to ensure your lawn a healthy regrow in the spring.
- Heavy use, a playground, children or pets running around - Poor drainage - Lawn dries out easily, has a spongy feel - Improper soil layering (meaning fine soil layered above coarse soil, disrupting drainage)
The ideal time to aerate is during cool seasons, spring and fall. Fall aeration ensures the soil underneath your turf has all the nutrients and oxygen it needs to keep your lawn healthy through the winter. Still not convinced aeration is what your yard needs? Here is a quick way to check the health of your turf.
- Remove a 4-inch deep slice of lawn with a shovel. If the thatch layer (layer of dead and living shoots, stems, and roots between the green vegetation and the soil) is greater than one-half inch, aeration is recommended.
